I met Isa at the London College of Communication, while studying Digital Media Production. We worked together on a number of projects and had high hopes of one day starting our own production company. It may have been youthful exuberance at the time, but as is often said, never say never, so watch this space on that front.
In addition to the projects we worked on together back at Uni, we even managed to find a way (even if only once) to collaborate away from the classroom. As a way of helping each other develop our strengths and weaknesses, we attempted to exchange skills that we were poles apart on. I was very sporty at the time, going swimming every other day and playing football regularly. I even attended yoga classes at least once a week back then.
Isa on the other hand didn’t have any athletic hobbies of his own and was much more Arty than I was. I learned that he painted every now and again using acrylics, this interested me greatly, so the trade was set. On one day I would make my way up to his place in north London to take him for a jog around his local park, while on another day Isa came to mine with all the materials and equipment needed to start my painting career. Admittedly, it’s still waiting to take off again but having said that, the result of that day has been proudly on display ever since.
For the past few years, Isa has worked as the main camera man and all things technical at Rumis Cave, a monthly open mic event with spoken word as well as a number of other musical, comical and dramatic performances taking the stage.
With a wealth of experience behind him as well as a great many videos posted on his YouTube channel, Isa now plans to fully establish himself as a full time vlogger. The plan going forward is to assist each other with gathering a wide variety of content that we can use to get our message out there. We both have stories to tell, we just need help telling them.
We certainly share a lot goals in common, namely trying to make a living from our creativity. At this point in our lives the time seems just right for us to be able to help each other get to the next level.
Together we can use our basic expertise coupled with the knowledge that time is running out to get our respective shows on the road. Then who knows, maybe further down the line that production company might not seem like such pie in the sky anymore. For now though, we are firmly focused on one brush stroke at a time.
“I’ve got this damn fool, Right!
With whom I planned to fight,
He’s from a land I like,
A standard guy that saw the light.
There’s nothing that bothers him,
Well as long as it’s not a sin,
He thinks his God’s the king of kings,
I wouldn’t argue with him - I think,
He’s taller than most other men,
And if you think he’s confused or bent,
Then guess again,
No go on then,
It’s my Muslim friend Sulaiman...”
