Written over a number of sittings, ‘Word Spark‘ tries its best to honour the first 5 lines. They ultimately dictate the metre and vibe of the flow. These personal soul searching verses, when done right, are perhaps the most rewarding to create. This one for example was upgraded to Memorised Classic in the flash of a spark, having reached completion just a couple weeks ago as part of next month MC Wordsmith article ‘Hobby to Obsession’.
This short but sweet verse has quickly become a real classic. Written as a response to a friend’s text message about the fact that to him I always seemed to be traveling around and seeing new places. My riposte is the perfect response to any and all inquiries regarding my priorities. “Life is for living, death is when we give in, until then I intend to give it one hell of a kicking.
The verse was originally called ‘Ground Breaking’ in reference to my overarching creative ambitions. The name could well have stood since I filmed this piece the same day as launching my Patreon Page, very symbolic indeed. However, I prefer ‘Breaking Sound’ as it is though the manipulation of rhythm and rhymes that I will ultimately place my stake in the ground.
As individuals we are deeply affected, even distraught whenever our families are broken up. It is in this spirit that I feel immense distress at the prospect of walking out on the EU. While the grass can seem greener, very rarely is this actually the case. As far as the potential opportunities are concerned, they cannot be seen as benefits if they come at the expense of our social cohesion.
Mankind is far from kind to this world. The list of crimes we commit to ourselves and each other every day is horrifying. I don’t usually offer no hope in my words but this time I’m showing you that I’m truly drained from our persistent efforts to ruin our only home. Let’s just pray I’m wrong and the awesome nature of nature won’t eventually hate us.
This one is a classic, written as part of my attempt to craft the universe in verse, while telling tales of space in rhyme. The scope of the project gave me the perspective needed to stand back and appreciate the utter magnificence of this wonderful world.
Written after last years general election, Forever Together is an attempt to imagine a peaceful resolution to the ongoing and ever present tension that underpins the political landscape. Whatever each of us is hoping for, compromise is the key to finding the Goldilocks zone, a fragile middle ground where the seeds of lasting peace reside.
In this day and age (the age of Post Truth) information and misinformation are routinely masquerading as one another. The truth is out there somewhere, it’s just not as obvious as it once was. This had led to a deepening mistrust amongst opposing political factions. The divides are widening and unless we find a way to overcome this insidiously destructive force our combined problems will just keep mounting.
Mad As A Mannequin is an epic journey of the imagination in so far as I’m referencing just how far I intend to take this game of words. Very confident and positive with my intent while at the same time acknowledging just how far I have to go. All the inactivity up until now has made me deeply impatient, thus making me as mad as a mannequin.
Rhyme Doctor is confident battle rap style verse. Tongue and cheek in places while at the same time touching on the deep commitment I have for my craft. Whatever the future holds for me I will continue to aim to get better and keep improving with every year. Also, it was great excuse to go for a stroll in Regents Park, while I might claim to want a life that's twice as nice, this one will do just fine.
Written almost 13 years ago it would seem as though Global Responsibility is now more appropriate than ever. This was my first environmental verse, clearly very different in style and rhythm from my recent works. Somethings always change with the times, my rhyming style being a case in point. If only the same could be said about our collective approach to saving our planet from our unsustainable expansion and short sighted exploitation of its resources. "You never know, it just might happen...".
